Welcome to the Friends Of St Mary's Church in Adderbury (FOSMA)The purpose of the Friends (FOSMA) is to enable the many different groups of people who value Adderbury’s magnificent church, to join together to play a part in keeping the fabric of the building in a good state of repair, and preserving it as a focus of village life and a place of great beauty for many future generations of Adderbury residents .
FOSMA was started in 2009 when the then vicar Rev Stephen Fletcher asked the then Churchwarden Val Scarff, supported by a small group, to establish FOSMA as a village group. It was inspired in part by the knowledge that following the major 2003-5 SMARTIES campaign there was an ongoing need for regular fundraising for works to the fabric of the church . This campaign had dealt with the works required to the Nave, the Aisles and the Transept (with the work done to the Cancel and Vestry by the Patron and lay rector, New College) led by the then vicar Rev John Holbrook (now Bishop John of Brixworth). Also there was known to be an imminent need for major works to the Tower. FOSMA was set up to be a charity modelled on the organisational structure used for the FOCAL campaign of 1998-2000 for the refurbishment of Church House. |
